Sylvenstein Reservoir Improvement
In order to improve flood protection on the Isar River, the height of the dam was increased by three metres and a second spillway was created from 1994 to 2001. A second hydroelectric power plant providing 3.8 megawatt was also installed.
The dam is currently being improved with a diaphragm (70 m depth) wall, an inspection tunnel and a seepage water system. The inspection tunnel is being built by pipe jacking. For this purpose an access tunnel as well as a launch and receiving cavern with corresponding shaft have to be built by drill and blast method.
