14.01.2022 I Freising west bypass: Tunnel Vötting opened

Since January 10th, 2022, the Freising west tangent with a total length of 3560 meters has been opened to traffic for the first time. It connects the Thalhauser Street and the Weihenstephaner Ring with the state road 23 50. The aim of the west tangent is to relieve the city of Freising from through traffic. EDR was responsible for a section of the roadway, the 705-meter-long Vötting Tunnel.

It was built using open cut and mining methods and was a challenging undertaking due to its location in the vicinity of sensitive buildings and difficult hydrogeological conditions. EDR was responsible for the planning, construction management and construction supervision of the Vötting tunnel.

The costs for the construction of the tunnel amount to an estimated 68 million Euros. The construction of the entire western bypass cost approximately 139 million euros.
