13.12.2018 I EDR makes a statement: Donation instead of Christmas cards
This year, EDR GmbH has decided that no Christmas cards will be sent. Instead, the amount of money will go to the research of cause and therapy of Amyotrophe Lateralsklerose (ALS). Reason is the unexpected illness of a colleague.
One to two out of 100,000 people are diagnosed with ALS every year. This is a severe disease of the central and peripheral nervous system that increasingly restricts motor functions and muscle activity. Participating in professional life and mastering everyday life are more difficult. ALS is currently incurable.
At request of the colleague, 1,000 Euro from the donation amount goes to the ALS clinic of the Charité Berlin, and 500 Euro each to the Charcot Foundation for ALS Research and the association niemALSaufgeben e.V. (www.niemalsaufgeben-ev.de).
Each of these institutions has its own valuable focus in line with the research and treatment of ALS patients. For example, the Charité concentrates on the implementation of research projects on new drugs and therapy methods. Among other things, the Charcot Foundation offers comprehensive advice for relatives of ALS patients. And the association niemALSaufgeben e.V. has set itself the Goal to raise public awareness on the disease through campaigns and events.
In Germany about 8,000 people are affected by ALS. Due to the rarity of the disease, only few funds are made available for research and treatment of ALS.
