03.11.2020 | Feasibility study for the ecological improvement of the Rhine and its floodplains in the Taubergiessen nature reserve (Germany) and on the Île de Rhinau (France)

Near-natural rivers and their accompanying floodplains are among the most species-rich habitats in Europe. A large part of the former riparian forests has already been lost, and the remaining riparian forests are threatened in their existence in the short term.

In close interaction with the relevant French and German actors, feasible solutions have to be developed in the scope of a feasibility study in order to make the river Rhine more dynamic and ecologically passable for aquatic wandering organisms. At the same time, the habitats of the river, banks and floodplains shall be recreated and integrated better, so that the ecological condition of the river Rhine and its floodplains in the Taubergiessen nature reserve (Germany) and on the Île de Rhinau (France) will improve in the long term.

EDR GmbH, INGÉROP Ingénerie & Conseil and the Institut für Landschaftsoekologie und Naturschutz Buehl were given the contract by the Regierungspraesidium Freiburg/Breisgau to carry out this feasibility study. It is precisely this cross-border project that highlights the advantages of intra-European teamwork within the INGÉROP group.
